Tramp through the gate and up the gully, along the farm track. You should see the marker post with orange painted tops. The climb to the top is just steep enough to work up a slight sweat, or what I have been told, is a glow. Not sweat.15 minutes up the walk is a shelter where you can sit and enjoy the views of the lake and surrounding hills.

30 Minutes from the turnoff the views are breathtaking. Just keep away from the cliff face, its a long painful tumble to the bottom. Climb, jump, crawl over the style. The marker posts are spread out a little too far.Side step the rabbits, and work your way down hill to the dam, this is about a 15 minute walk.

From the dam, look ahead and down the valley, you should see the dirt farm track snaking its way down to the lake. This track can get quite cut up by the cattle in the winter time, so expect to get your boots covered in mud.In all it is an easy track to follow down to the lake. The marker posts will show you the way.One thing you must watch out for is the Aberdeen angus cattle. In kiwi slang Blackpolls. The Blackpolls are hill country cattle; hence they can be a little wild and rush out of the scrub as you walk past and frighten the living daylights out of you!
